FIREARMS —
SHOOTING RANGE LICENSING
847. Hon AARON STONEHOUSE to the minister representing the
Minister for Police:
I refer the minister to the WA
Police Force's role as a licensing body for gun clubs and shooting
ranges across the state.
(1) How many licensed shooting
ranges are currently operational in Western Australia?
(2) How many of those ranges have
had their licensing conditions varied in the past 12 months?
(3) Of those that
were varied, how many had additional requirements placed upon them, how many
variations were made in each case, and for what reason?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following information has been provided to me
by the Minister for Police. The Western Australia Police Force advises the
following.
(1) There are 37.
(2) One range had its conditions
varied.
(3) The range had
12 new conditions added to replace nine previous conditions. The new conditions
allow the WA Police Force to assess compliance to achieve more effective
regulation, as well as control of firearms and the licensing of persons
possessing and using firearms.
