(1) Is the minister aware that a Kalgoorlie-Boulder transport hub allowing rail freight to be offloaded in Kalgoorlie-Boulder and trucked to the Pilbara could be built if the Government were prepared to build the Wiluna, Neds Creek-Kumarina road or the Wiluna-Meekatharra road? (2) Given the large number of jobs such a facility would provide for the goldfields, is the Government now prepared to build this road rather than just list it in the budget papers with a zero dollar allocation? Hon KEN TRAVERS

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1)-(2) The proposed intermodal freight terminal at Parkeston is not dependent on the construction of either of those roads. The project is one that we wish to advance and the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure has requested that her department work with the Goldfields-Esperance Development Commission to undertake the necessary engineering studies and the preparation of a business case. The intermodal facility is likely to cost between $14 million and $20 million.
