(1) Is it accurate to state that a complete mental health team operating within one of the metropolitan divisions of the Health Department would consist of one or more consulting psychiatrists, a psychiatric registrar, a medical officer, a clinical psychologist, a social worker, one or two occupational therapists, a number of community health nurses and one or two welfare officers?
(2) If no, will the Minister advise the people who make up such a mental health team?
(3) Is it accurate to state that there would also be three teams of the above-listed people to deal with children/adolescent, adult and psycho-geriatric patients in a metropolitan division?
(4) If no, how does the Department manage these three groups of patients?
(5) In the South West Mental Health region, does the Health Department accept that there should be three mental health teams to manage similar groups of patients as described above for the Perth metropolitan area?
(6) If not, why not?
(7) Is there a mental health team in the South West to cater for psycho-geriatric patients and, if not, why not?
(8) Is the mental health team in the South West that caters for children/adolescents up to full staffing levels and, if not, why not?

(2) Please refer to answer (1) above. (3) There are approximately 20 clinical teams in the metropolitan area that service all age groups. These teams are regionally focussed. As stated above, the range and mix of professional team members depends on the target group to be served. For example, the usual composition of a community child and adolescent team is psychiatrist, psychiatric registrar, clinical psychologist, social worker and community mental health nurses. For a psychogeriatric team, it would also include occupational therapy. (4) Please refer to answer (3) above. (5) The planning and provision of mental health services in the South West considers the needs of all age groups. The service model, including the type and mix of specialist staff, is determined at the regional level and not by reference to the number in the metropolitan area. (6) Please refer to answer (5) above. (7) Specialist psycho-geriatric services are considered to be a tertiary level intervention service and these services are generally provided in the metropolitan area. Where applicable psychogeriatric patients in the South West are treated by the mainstream mental health services. (8) All positions are filled except one part-time position. Recruitment processes are underway to fill this vacancy.
