(1)       The Department of Mines and Petroleum's (DMP) records show that there are 34 mine sites involving 70 mining tenements where unconditional performance bonds have been called in because rehabilitation requirements have not been completed.
(2)       The names and locations of these 34 mines, with the 70 relevant tenements, are provided in the attached table [see tabled paper number
].
(3)       According to available departmental records, 11 of these mining tenements have been either remediated or partially remediated by DMP, using the called up unconditional performance bonds. These 11 tenements are across eight mine sites and are denoted in the attached table referred to in answer (2).
(4)       In the absence of further mining activities taking place on the remaining 59 tenements, the bond monies held would be insufficient to completely rehabilitate these mine sites.  Opportunities may exist in some cases where there has been a change in company ownership arising from administration/ liquidation proceedings involving the former tenement holder for the un-remediated areas to be incorporated in future mining and rehabilitation activities.
