(b) has that pledge now been modified to cover a smaller part of the SPP area; (c) if yes, what geographical area is now proposed for review; (d) what progress has been made to date to undertake the promised review of the Smith's Beach area; and (e) in particular, what review is being made of issues relating to the maximum sizes of permanent residential and tourist populations at the Smith's Beach site?

(c) Smiths Beach, in the Shire of Busselton. Work is being undertaken to look at growth proposed in Gracetown and Gnarabup, although the concerns in these areas do not necessarily arise out of the SPP. (d) At my request, the Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) has reviewed the SPP in relation to Smiths Beach and proposed an amendment. There have been discussions with the various stakeholders and the proposed amendment to the SPP has been advertised for public comment. The WAPC now has to consider the large number of submissions received and make recommendations back to me concerning finalisation of the amendment to the SPP. (e) Amongst other things, the amendment proposes definition of a developable area, that could comprise up to 25% residential development and 75% tourist development, calculated on relative land area.

(a - b) The ALP committed to review a number of settlement levels specified in the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge Statement of Planning Policy (SPP). I am satisfied that the SPP is largely a sound planning policy prepared with wide public input, but that in some instances the scale of nodal development proposed was either uncertain or too great.
(c) Smiths Beach, in the Shire of Busselton. Work is being undertaken to look at growth proposed in Gracetown and Gnarabup, although the concerns in these areas do not necessarily arise out of the SPP.
