I refer to the proposal by the Gorgon joint venture to reinject carbon dioxide into a saline aquifer in the vicinity of Barrow Island and ask - (1) Has the joint venture or the Government assessed the location of suitable aquifers in the region other than the Dupuy aquifer? (2) Will the minister table a map showing - (a) the location and extent of the Dupuy aquifer; and, (b) the location and extent of any other suitable aquifers? Hon KEN TRAVERS

(1) Yes, as described by section 8.8.3 of the Gorgon joint venture in the environmental, social and economic review of the Gorgon gas development document. The Dupuy sands is the preferred option. (2) See the attached map from the ESE document of potential reinjection sites. [See paper No 1652.]
