Firearms Act—Digital identification
41. Hon Louise Kingston to the minister representing
the Minister for Police :
I refer to the
answer to my question without notice 15 asked yesterday, which advised:
The Western
Australia Police Force's licensing services and firearms transition team
already has processes and systems in place to assist licensed firearms
owners according to their specific needs. Any reasonable request will not be
denied.
(1) Can the minister please outline the process
and advise whether there is actually a paper-based process that does not
require the use of the myID system?
(2) If there is a paper-based process, can the
minister please advise why people seeking that process are not being told it is
available?
(3) If there is a paper-based process, can the
minister please advise how people can access it?

I thank the member
for some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me
by the Minister for Police.
(1)–(3) The Western Australia Police Force
will assist firearm licence holders who are unable to use the myID system. People
can book and manage a suitable time and location to undergo a 100-point
identification check. This is available at local police stations. Firearm
licence holders who need assistance with their transitional licensing
arrangements, their myID or alternative methods should contact the WA Police
Force firearm licence holders hotline on 1300 894 474.
