(a) There are many sources of water for mining and other purposes in the Goldfields area, including supplies from the Goldfields and Agricultural Water Scheme (G&AWS), local groundwater and surface water sources. The sufficiency of these supplies depends on the level of investment by those wishing to utilise these sources.
Mining companies currently use hyper-saline groundwater that could potentially be substituted by desalination water from Esperance. The viability of this substitution depends on the cost of this alternative.
(b) This issue is currently being examined by the Treasurer.
