(1) Three sites at Iluka's North Capel mineral processing plant were reported to the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) on 31 May 2007 as 'known or suspected contaminated sites' under section 11 of the
Contaminated Sites Act 2003
.
All three sites are awaiting classification under the Act. Until the sites have been classified, DEC cannot determine if the sites are considered "contaminated".
(2) Not applicable.
(3) - (4) Enforcement action will be taken by the Department of Environment and Conservation if an offence is alleged to have occurred.
(5) Until the sites have been classified, DEC cannot determine whether investigation or remediation is required.
