METROPOLITAN RAIL NETWORK - NEW RAILCARS 857. Hon RAY HALLIGAN to the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure: I refer to the government media announcement of 19 September 2006 concerning the decision to purchase 45 new railcars for the metropolitan rail network.  What increase in patronage is expected on the northern suburbs railway on weekdays and on weekends? Hon ADELE FARINA

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. The additional railcars are being purchased to accommodate expected annual patronage growth on the whole train network of between three and four per cent per annum to 2011.  The additional new railcars will be allocated to operations on the Clarkson and Mandurah lines, but this will allow additional trains to be allocated to all the lines; that is, a cascade effect.
