CHILD
SAFETY DIRECTORS' GROUP
855. Hon SALLY TALBOT to the
Minister for Child Protection:
My question has been redirected to the Minister for Child Protection.
It is C893. I had addressed it to the Leader of the House representing the
Premier because I thought that the director general was the chair of this
group. Anyway, I will see what I get.
(1) When was the Child Safety Directors' Group
established?
(2) Who are the members of the group?
(3) How often does the group meet?
(4) What are its roles and responsibilities?
(5) Are its meetings minuted?
(6) To whom and in what form does the group report?

I thank the member for some notice of the question. Indeed,
this question was redirected to me.

The Child Safety Directors' Group was established in 2007 as a result
of recommendations made in the 2007 ''Review of the Department for
Community Development: Review Report'', known as the Ford report.
Recommendation 60 called for the identification of a child safety director in
all key government agencies with responsibilities for child safety and
wellbeing. Recommendation 61 recommended the establishment of the Child Safety
Directors' Group to ensure that a coordinated response by government is
provided to vulnerable children and their families, including children who are
in the care of the state. The Child Safety Directors' Group meets on a
six-weekly basis and meetings of the Child Safety Directors' Group are
minuted. I table the attached terms of reference that address all the other
questions asked by the honourable member.
