PAYROLL TAX — PROPOSED HARMONISATION MEASURES
I have a supplementary question. Is the Treasurer not ruling out bringing subcontractors in the housing industry into the payroll tax net, thus increasing the cost of an average house by between 1.5 per cent and four per cent? I judge from his answer that he is not ruling that out. Mr C.J. BARNETT

As the Leader of the Opposition sought to do — Mr E.S. Ripper : I did not. Mr C.J. BARNETT : Only after being belted around for six months. We are prepared to look at common definitions of other jurisdictions. However, genuine subcontractors should not be drawn into that net. Ruses—contrivances—should be.
