The Minister Replied:
(1)-(2) State Government funding is delivered through the local government program, RoadWise. This funding will be $1.2 million in 2000/2001. I understand RoadWise has budgeted $30 000 for the Safe Routes to School program.
A large component of the Safe Routes to School program is the development and building of bike paths. The Government provides funding to local government for the development and building of bike paths and a significant proportion of these funds are allotted to Safe Routes to Schools initiatives. In 2000/2001, the budget for the development and building of bike paths will be
$2 664 000. This is matched by local government.
The amount spent on this program in other jurisdictions, and the details of what elements contribute to these amounts is not known.
I understand NSW expenditure on this program is currently being revised.
