PERTH MAJOR SPORTS STADIUM — TOTAL
COST
432. Mr M. McGOWAN to the Minister for Sport and Recreation:
I refer the Premier's commitment to the house
yesterday to provide a briefing to the opposition in relation to the Perth
Stadium costings and his comments —
we will give a projected cost,
but we are not yet at that stage. In the coming weeks, we will be —
(1) Since
yesterday has the minister been briefed concerning a stadium report prepared by
WT Partnership, quantity surveyors?
(2) If yes, what
is the costings figure revealed in that report?
(3) When will the
minister be in a position to tell the public what the actual cost will be?
(4) When will the
opposition be briefed concerning the cost of the Perth Stadium?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the Leader of the Opposition for the question.
(1)–(4) No, I have not been briefed by WTP, so I have
not —
Mr M. McGowan :
That wasn't the question.
Mr T.K. WALDRON :
Yes, it was.
Mr M. McGowan :
Have you been briefed?
Mr T.K. WALDRON :
The Leader of the Opposition's first question was have I been briefed.
Mr M. McGowan :
Have you been briefed in relation to it?
Mr T.K. WALDRON :
No, I have not. The second question was: when will we be able to brief the
opposition? It will be after the project definition plan is finalised and it
has been to government. That will firm up the indicative costings. I will just
take the Leader of the Opposition through it so that he understands it. We had
an indicative cost for the stadium itself at the time of $700 million, and $300
million for transport. That is what the PDP will firm up. Of course, at the end
of the day, once we go out to tender, that is when we actually find the final
figures. It will be whatever we firm up with the project definition plan, which
is pretty much finalised and will go to government shortly. We will then be in
a position to make that public. That is when the Premier agreed that he would
allow the opposition to have a briefing, which is fine. I have no problem with
that. I think I have answered all the Leader of the Opposition's
questions. What was the last one? The Leader of the Opposition cannot remember
it. I think that was it.
