I refer to the recent tragic motor
vehicle accident in Baldivis that saw three young men lose their lives.
(1) Has the Baldivis Volunteer Fire and Emergency
Services unit been requesting road crash rescue equipment and training
since at least 2018?
(2) On what
date did the Department of Fire and Emergency Services last consider a submission
from Baldivis VFES with respect to granting a road rescue profile to the
brigade?
(3) On what basis was this submission rejected?
(4) Will the minister commit to reconsidering this request?

The allocation and placement of operational capability assets is the sole
responsibility of the Fire and Emergency
Services Commissioner. The Baldivis Volunteer Fire and Emergency Services unit
transitioned from the Baldivis Bush Fire Brigade in November 2016. The
Rockingham and Hope Valley Career Fire and Rescue Service—CFRS—has
career crews available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to provide an
operational response to the Baldivis response area for hazardous materials and
road crash rescue. The Rockingham, Secret Harbour and Kwinana VFRSs have
existing resource capabilities for HAZMAT and RCR response coverage in addition
to the CFRS stations.
