I thank Hon Giz Watson for some notice of this question. The Minister for the Environment has provided the following response - (1) It is the responsibility of the brickworks to dispose of waste in accordance with environmental regulations. Waste disposed to landfill must meet relevant landfill acceptance criteria. It is the landfill operator’s responsibility to ensure that these criteria are met. (2) The Department of Environment and Conservation’s landfill acceptance criteria are published in “Landfill Waste Classification and Waste Definitions 1996”, which sets out the procedures for waste generators to analyse waste and then consign it to the appropriate classification landfill. There is no specific classification for kiln scrubber waste. (3) There is no regulatory requirement for brickworks to provide DEC analysis results of kiln scrubber waste.
