Hon. Alanna Clohesy asks the Minister for Commerce about the local content reporting methodology used by the Department of Commerce, specifically regarding the value and classification of 'local' contracts in the resource sector. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE — LOCAL CONTENT
REPORT MAY 2014
906. Hon ALANNA CLOHESY to the Minister
for Commerce:
I refer the minister to appendix 2
of the Department of Commerce local content report dated May 2014 in which publicly
announced local awarded resource sector contracts are listed.
(1) What
proportion of the value of each contract must be added locally for a contract
to be classed as local?
(2) For each
contract value listed, is this —
(a) the total value of the contract;
or
(b) the value of the contract that is
added locally?
(3) If yes to
(2)(a), will the minister provide the details of the value of each contract
that was added locally; and, if not, why not?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of this question.
(1) Appendix 2
represents the value of contracts that have been awarded to businesses located
in Western Australia. It is based on the geographical location of the
successful bidder.
(2) It is the
total value of the contract.
(3) The
information is gathered from publicly available sources at the time of the
award announcement, which does not provide further breakdown of the actual
proportion of Western Australian value added.
