(1) A Feasibility Study for a potential bid for the 2018 Commonwealth Games has not been undertaken. A preliminary assessment was made of the potential to make a bid but on 1 December 2008 the Australia Commonwealth Games Association wrote to the Premier advising that its Board had deferred its decision on determining whether Australia should bid for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Furthermore advice was received from the Federal Minister for Sport, the Hon. Kate Ellis MP, indicating that significant financial support was unlikely to be forthcoming from the Australian Government. Given these factors no further assessment was undertaken at that time.
(2) A briefing on the preliminary assessment can be provided by the Department of Sport and Recreation to the Hon. Ken Travers if required.
