minister representing the Minister for Planning:
I refer to the first closure of the
Elizabeth Quay water park due to what was described as ''non–disease
causing amoeba''.
(1) What
microorganisms were specifically detected, and at what specific levels, in the
water and/or pipes?
(2) When did the water park first
close as a result of the concerns?
(3) Did the water
park reopen at any stage between 4 February and 8 February; and, if so, at what
times and for how long?
(4) What was the total cost of
conducting tests and upgrading the system?

of the question. I am very glad that my colleague had to answer the first part
earlier this afternoon, which means that I do not have to pronounce those
words.
(1) This question
was answered by question without notice 87 (C103) directed to the Minister for
Health.
(2) The water
park first closed on 4 February 2016 for cleaning and maintenance.
(3) Following
cleaning and maintenance, the water park reopened once—on the morning
of 5 February 2016 for approximately two to three hours. The water park was
subsequently closed later that day following new testing results. The water
park reopened on 8 February following approval from WA Health.
(4) There is no
individual item cost to the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority. The Elizabeth
Quay managing contractor, Leighton–Broad, is currently liable for all
costs of testing and upgrades to the system as part of its contract with the
MRA.
