263. Hon PETER COLLIER to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Attorney General:
I refer the Attorney General to his
response to question without notice 239 on Thursday, 16 March.
(1) Did the
Corruption and Crime Commission advise the Attorney General that it had
concluded its investigation into the contents of a laptop of a former member of
the Legislative Council in April 2022; and, if yes, when?
(2) Has the CCC advised the
Parliament of its opinion or finding on this issue; and, if so, when?
(3) If no to (2), will the CCC advise the Parliament
of its opinion or finding on this issue; and, if not, why not?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided by the
Attorney General, and I provide it on behalf of the parliamentary secretary.
(1) No. The
Attorney General was informed by media reports of the evidence of Commissioner
McKechnie at the public hearing of the Joint Standing Committee on the
Corruption and Crime Commission on 15 March
2023 that the investigation into former Liberal MP Phil Edman and others, known
as Operation Betelgeuse, had been completed.
(2)–(3) I
am advised that the Corruption and Crime Commission made no opinions or
findings in relation to the Corruption, Crime and Misconduct Act 2003.
