Dr. Woollard questions significant budget cuts to the Waste Management Recycling Fund's administration and waste reduction/recycling policies between 2005-06 and 2006-07. The answer explains the discrepancy as due to carryover funds in the 2005-06 figure and expected revenue from waste levies in 2006-07.

(1) Why has the budget allocation for the administration of the Waste Management Recycling Fund been cut from $1,273,000 estimated actual in 2005-2006 to $984,000 in 2006-2007?
(2) I refer to page 847 of the 2006-2007 budget papers and I ask - Why have the policies and strategies to reduce and recycle waste been cut from $11,636,000 estimated actual in 2005-2006 to less than half that figure of $5,829,000 for 2006-2007?

(2) The 2005-06 estimated actual includes carryover funds from previous years associated with the Waste Management Recycling Fund relating to approved, but not paid out grants. The 2006-07 figure reflects the expected revenue associated with the Waste Levies (approximately $4.8m) collected in connection with Waste Management Recycling Fund.
