I thank the member for some notice
of the question.
(1) In 2015–16,
364 801 students were enrolled in the school dental service, of which a total
of 163 591 students were provided with an examination/assessment and treatment
via 280 604 occasions of service. As at 30 June 2016, 98 858 enrolled students
had not responded to an offer of treatment. These students are still eligible
to participate in the school dental service and may attend as an emergency
patient should the need arise.
(2) As of 1
November 2016, the average waiting time for a routine recall examination in the
School Dental Service was 19.6 months. This is in line with ''Australia's
National Oral Health Plan 2015–2024'', which indicates that
children should receive an oral health check-up at least every two years.
(3) In 2015–16,
3 225 students were enrolled at Aveley Dental Therapy Centre, of which a total
of 1 594 students were provided with an examination/assessment and treatment
via 2 568 occasions of service. As at 30 June 2016, 824 enrolled students had
not responded to an offer of treatment.
In 2015–16, 3 374 students
were enrolled at Arbor Grove Dental Therapy Centre, of which a total of 1 567
students were provided with an examination/assessment and treatment via 2 537
occasions of service. As at 30 June 2016, 804 enrolled students had not
responded to an offer of treatment.
(4) As of 1
November 2016, the average waiting time for a routine recall examination at
Aveley Dental Therapy Centre was 17.3 months. As of 1 November 2016, the
average waiting time for a routine recall examination at Arbor Grove Dental
Therapy Centre was 17.2 months.
(5) The locations
of new dental therapy centres align with the Department of Education's
building program and are determined by increases in school dental service
enrolments. On 11 October 2016, the Anne Hamersley Dental Therapy Centre, which
is located at the new Anne Hamersley Primary School, 16 Dunnett Drive, The
Vines, commenced operations.
