SCHOOLS —
VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING
481. Hon SUE ELLERY to the
Minister for Education:
(1) Is the
Minister for Education aware of concerns from secondary schools, both public
and private, that the requirement for those teaching vocational education and
training subjects to hold the certificate themselves is too expensive and
onerous for schools to manage and may actually result in a more narrow range of
VET courses being taught?
(2) If so,
what plans does the minister have to address these concerns?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question.
(1)–(2)
All school sectors received additional funding for the upskilling of teachers to deliver VET. Public schools now have a one-line budget and make
local decisions about how to best support studentsXXX ###XXX
educational programs, including teacher qualifications to deliver VET programs.
I am not aware of any new concerns from secondary schools on this matter since
the funding was provided. However, a high-level cross-sector and cross-agency
VET working group has been formed to address issues within VET in schools
delivery.
