Corrective services—Accommodation practices
279. Hon Michelle Boylan to the minister representing the Minister for Corrective Services:
I refer to current accommodation
practices within Western Australia's correctional facilities, particularly
concerning the use of alternative sleeping arrangements due to capacity
constraints.
(1) How many prisoners at each adult prison,
juvenile detention centre and work camp in Western Australia are accommodated
in alternative sleeping arrangements, with the data broken down by individual
facility?
(2) For each facility listed in (1), please
specify:
(a) the number of prisoners currently accommodated
in each type of alternative sleeping arrangement—for example,
mattresses on the floor, non-standard beds, temporary overflow areas; and
(b) the type of arrangement used.

I thank the member
for some notice of the question. The following information has been provided to
me by the Minister for Corrective Services. The Department of Justice advises
the following.
(1) As at 28 May, nil juveniles are accommodated
in alternative sleeping arrangements at Banksia Hill or unit 18. The below
table captures the adult estate accommodated in alternative sleeping
arrangements as at 28 May. Nil adults are accommodated in alternative sleeping
arrangements at work camps. That part of the question is in tabular form and I
seek leave to have that incorporated into Hansard .
