QuestionView source ↗

(1) Does the Government have a protocol for the flying of State flags, for example on police stations and at schools?
(2) If not, will it consider introducing one as a means of encouraging people to have a greater sense of pride in their State and, consequently, their nation?
(3) In any such protocol can provision be made for new buildings to have installed the requisite number of flag-poles to accommodate Commonwealth, State and local or departmental flags where it is appropriate to fly these at the one time?

(2) The Government is encouraging pride in the State Flag by continuing the practice of providing Members of Parliament with an annual allocation of ten flags for distribution within the community. (3) It is appropriate for the State Flag to be flown alongside the National Flag on State Government buildings and this would normally be the case on major establishments. With regard to police stations, it is now the general practice for new regional or district office buildings to have at least two flagpoles. All new school buildings are provided with one flagpole. Second flagpoles can be funded from schools' minor works budgets. Some agencies are also taking the opportunity to recognise our indigenous people by flying the Aboriginal flag as well.
