INDEMNITY INSURANCE
410. Hon ALANNA CLOHESY to the Minister for Commerce:
Some notice of this question has been given. How many claims
against home indemnity insurance policies have been made in 2010–11,
2011–12, 2013–14 and from 2014 to date?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question. Claims are made directly to private sector insurers. A claim can be
made for failure to complete construction or, for a period of six years after
construction, failure to remedy defects. The state has access to claims
information only with respect to claims made against home indemnity insurance
policies issued in Western Australia by Calliden Group Ltd and QBE Insurance
Australia as a result of reinsurance arrangements made with those insurers
since 2010. Twenty claims were made in 2010–11; 111 claims were made in
2011–12; 169 claims were made in 2013–14; and 77 claims have
been made from 2014 to date.
