MEDI-HOTELS
668. Ms L. METTAM to the Minister for Health:
I refer to the minister's answer in the house
yesterday that the 12-bed From Hospital to Home facility has saved 3 707 bed
days.
(1) When will
the medi-hotels at Joondalup and Fiona Stanley Hospitals, which were a Labor
Party election commitment, be open to the public?
(2) If the
government had actually commenced these projects in 2017 as promised, how many
bed days would have been saved over the past four years?

(1)–(2)
Joondalup Health Campus is undergoing significant expansion. That includes 102
new mental health beds, new surgical facilities and a new multistorey car park.
It was determined that a far greater and better investment in the health
service for the northern suburbs would be to increase the hospital capacity,
particularly the mental health capacity. Those 102 mental health beds will be a
complete game changer for mental health in the northern suburbs.
A medi-hotel may well be part of
future developments. That is absolutely still under live discussion with the
operator of that facility. The member will be aware that it is a private
operator and we have to negotiate these things through. We have delivered
hundreds of millions of dollars of upgrades to Joondalup Health Campus,
including beds.
I
understand that the Fiona Stanley medi-hotel will open mid–next year.
That is the date that we are working towards.
We are currently in final negotiations with the provider around those
medi-hotel beds. That will be an incredible facility. In fact, that
whole precinct is turning into a world-class health precinct. I am very proud
of those achievements.
