SQUARE KILOMETRE ARRAY RADIO TELESCOPE
I refer to Western Australia’s bid for the square kilometre array radio telescope project and the commitment in the Premier’s media statement of 13 February 2007 that states - . . . we will look at legislation that will help us prevent unacceptable levels of radio interference from the operation of transmitters or devices, such as machines, mining equipment, trains, trucks, mobile phones and CB radios, within a 70 km radius of the centre of the core SKA zone. (1) What progress has been made on developing this legislation? (2) What form will this legislation take? (3) When will this legislation be introduced? (4) Can the minister confirm that a rail line will not be constructed within the 70-kilometre zone of the current Boolardy station SKA site? Hon KIM CHANCE

I thank Hon Barry House for the notice he has given of the question. I do not have an answer with me. If one comes in, I will certainly provide it today. I thought I had seen it. Hon Barry House : I was told yesterday that it was available. Hon KIM CHANCE : Yes. I thought I had seen it yesterday, so perhaps it might come in during question time today. I am sorry about that.
