There may be some confusion because my questions submitted as 2530 and 2658 just about overlap. I will ask the later question. With regard to logging operations in both plantations and native forests, I ask - (1) What funds are allocated for each of the forest regions in 2003-04 and 2004-05 for - (a) firefighting activities, including training and maintenance; and (b) fire management, including protective burning programs? (2) What percentage is this of the total commission budget for - (a) each region; and (b) in total? (3) What were the comparable figures for 2001-02? Hon KIM CHANCE

I thank Hon Bill Stretch for some notice of this question. (1) I provide figures of the budget allocation of the Forest Products Commission and not of the Department of Conservation and Land Management. The annual budget allocation is as follows - (a) 2003-04 2004-05 South west, including Manjimup $590 000 $583 000 Mid west, including the Swan region $538 000 $531 000 (b) 2003-04 2004-05 South west, including Manjimup $1 261 000 $1 261 000 Mid west, including the Swan region $1 542 000 $1 542 000 Note: the above figures do not include native forest regeneration burning, as this activity does not fall under fire management or protective burning. That relates to the regeneration burning of karri, so those figures are not included.
