(1) Is the Minister aware of the difficulties faced by people who attempt to pay their traffic infringements even one day late?
(2) Why can’t payments be accepted one or two days late, even with a late fee added?
(3) Will the Minister be introducing legislation to rectify this situation; and

(1) Yes.
(2) Payments can not be accepted past the requirement of the legislation i.e. Section 102 of the
Road Traffic Act 1974
and Regulation 7 of the
Road Traffic (Infringements) Regulations 1975.
After 28 days the payment converts to a final demand, which attracts an additional $13.50 fee.  In cases where the payment is not accepted persons are advised that a final demand will be issued in due course.
(3) No.
(a) Not applicable.
(b) In the case of camera infringements additional time is allowed for postal delivery of original notices. In the case of notices issued "On The Spot" and handed to the person, 28 days is provided for the payment.
