Commonwealth funding for Coastcare, from the Natural Heritage Trust, is provided to the State on the basis of matching funds. These are made available through the State's Coastwest program. Hence, the Coastwest/Coastcare grants are delivered in partnership as one program. Continuation of the Coastcare Program is contingent upon Commonwealth priorities for the Natural Heritage Trust II and subsequent negotiations with the States and their respective local governments for its delivery. (The Natural Heritage Trust is at the end of its life and the Commonwealth is currently developing its replacement, NHT II). 2. In 2000/01 a total of $971 533 was awarded to Coastwest/Coastcare grants. A total pool of $ 1 000 000 is again available in 2001/02. As in previous years, the State has committed $500 000 for Coastwest grants in 2001/2002.
