CENTRE FOR NATIONAL RESILIENCE
579. Hon JAMES HAYWARD to the Leader of the House
representing the Premier:
I refer to the 500-bed Centre for
National Resilience in Bullsbrook.
(1) Will the
state government suggest to the federal government that the facility be used as
a temporary social housing option for Western Australians who are not able to
find a place to rent in the current market?
(2) If no, why not?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for the
question.
(1)–(2) The
former commonwealth government announced its intention to build a quarantine facility
in Western Australia 18 months into the pandemic. The centre is being
constructed by the commonwealth government on land owned by the commonwealth
government. Given that quarantine requirements no longer exist for returned
international travellers, the facility is not required as a quarantine
facility. The state government is keen to work with the new commonwealth
government to identify alternative uses for the facility.
