CANNABIS — RESEARCH
275. Hon Dr BRIAN WALKER to the minister representing the
Minister for Police:
I
refer the minister to recent research undertaken by researchers at the Colorado
School of Public Health, suggesting that they have identified a significantly
more reliable model for testing impairment, via the molar metabolite ratio of
THC to 11-nor-9-carboxy-THC in the blood, than is possible with a simple blood
test.
(1) Given that
these new tests return a 96 per cent accuracy rate for recent use, as opposed
to an 80 per cent rate for the tests currently in use, will the minister ensure
that the Western Australia Police Force keeps abreast of these scientific
developments?
(2) Will he
recommend that the research be considered by the ministerial working group
looking at THC driving laws here in WA?
