Ms Hodson-Thomas questions the Minister about the capacity of northern suburbs train stations to accommodate the new railcars and the potential costs of upgrades. The Minister's response is dismissive and appears to misunderstand the question, ultimately stating the trains can be used on the existing line.

QuestionView source ↗

I refer to a media statement released by the minister on 8 December 2001 on a $300 million contract for 93 railcars to service the south west metropolitan railway and the northern suburbs transit line, and ask - (1) Given that the 93 new railcars consist of 31 three-car sets, will the minister confirm that the train stations on the northern suburbs transit line between Leederville and Currambine - eight stations in total - cannot accommodate two three-car sets? (2) If so, what will be the cost of these major upgrades? Ms MacTIERNAN

(1)-(2) I am not sure that I get the drift of the question. It is a bit like the motion moved yesterday when it seemed that everything was put into a blender and a button pressed in the hope that something would come out that was vaguely edible. I was unable to hear every part of the question, but I think the member for Carine asked whether the new car seat configurations - the 130 kilometre an hour trains we will use on the line - can be used on the existing northern suburbs line. I understand the answer is yes.
