(1) What steps is the Government taking to address the expected surge in the availability of methylamphetamines in Western Australia? (2) Has the Government established an across-agency task force to deal with this impending crisis? (3) If no to (2), why not? Hon GRAHAM GIFFARD

On behalf of the minister representing the Minister for Police and Emergency Services, I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) The Police Service has advised that any surge in the availability of illicit drugs is closely monitored by the detective superintendent in charge of the organised crime division, who will take the necessary measures within his present resources to deal with any apparent escalation. The organised crime division has a specially trained team of investigators who deal with the detection and dismantling of the clandestine laboratories used to produce methylamphetamines. Reducing the supply of the precursor chemicals used in the manufacture of methylamphetamines is also an important objective for policing. (2)-(3) Please refer to the Minister for Health.
