My supplementary question is: can the minister confirm that the government has breached its own asbestos policy and the asbestos and synthetic fibre management plan of the Muja power station by not completing comprehensive testing and by reopening asbestos-affected areas too early? A government member: It’s not relevant. Mr E.S. RIPPER : Not relevant? People have been exposed to deadly asbestos, and the member thinks it is not relevant. Several members interjected. The SPEAKER : Order! I have deemed that it is an eligible question. Minister, I do not need advice from anyone else in this place, even if you know it is an ineligible question. Mr W.R. MARMION

I cannot give the answer to that, but I can say that I take asbestos very seriously. As a former resident of Wittenoom Gorge for five years, where many of my families’ friends died, and as the new Minister for Commerce, I will be taking asbestos very, very seriously.
