(1) Is the Minister aware that the General Conditions of Contract for the Zone Maintenance Contract of the Department of Housing and Works requires the use of sodium hypochlorite to control mildew?
(2) Is the Minister aware that other dangerous chemicals such as phosphoric and hydrochloric acids are often used by cleaning contractors who clean or maintain Government houses and other buildings?
(3) Why is it that the General Conditions of Contract do not include requirements for successful tenderers to train their staff in the use of these dangerous chemicals and for the Department of Housing and Works to monitor both the use of these chemicals and the quality of contract staff training?

(2) Yes.
(3) The general conditions of contract include reference to the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984; the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996 and the need for a Safety Management Plan which includes induction and training under Clause 2.27 of the General Conditions of Contract.
