St John of God Midland Public Hospital—Critical
incident review
25. Ms Libby Mettam to
the Minister for Health :
I have a
supplementary question.
Why are metropolitan
hospitals on maternity bypass every second day under the Minister for Health's
watch?

It
is really important to understand that behind the operation of our public
health system, as the Premier already said today, is a commitment to ensure
that people are able to access the care they need in a safe environment. The
use of bypasses is not particularly unique to our health system. Our public
health system successfully delivers thousands of
babies every month right around WA and, like all jurisdictions in Australia, we
use maternity bypass as a normal way of ensuring that expectant mothers
deliver safely and get the appropriate care that they need.
