VENUESWEST — PERTH MOTORPLEX — DRAG
RACING
299. Hon MARTIN PRITCHARD to the Leader of
the House representing the Minister for Sport and Recreation:
I refer to the minister's
confirmation last week that neither she nor VenuesWest sought advice from the
Confederation of Australian Motor Sport about the International Hot Rod
Association's sanctioning of drag racing events at the Perth Motorplex.
(1) Can the
minister explain why advice was not sought from CAMS; and, if not, why not?
(2) Can the
minister explain why VenuesWest has supported Motorplex running drag racing
events under IHRA sanctioning using copyright material that is the sole
property of the Australian National Drag Racing Association Ltd, ANDRA?
(3) Is the
minister aware that with the lack of clarity and guidance over this matter by
VenuesWest, ANDRA faces significant loss of earnings and damage to its brand
and it may be forced to close down in Western Australia?

On behalf of the Minister for Sport
and Recreation, I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) As the
Confederation of Australian Motor Sports is recognised as a strategic partner
of the Australian National Drag Racing Association Ltd, it was considered by
VenuesWest there may be a conflict of interest in involving CAMS in the
sanction body assessment process undertaken by VenuesWest and independent
experts.
(2) I understand
that VenuesWest has been advised in writing by ANDRA that this matter will be
the subject of legal proceedings. I am therefore not prepared to comment
further.
(3) This matter
is also the subject of the above legal proceedings; therefore, I am not
prepared to comment further.
