I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1)–(2) DPIRD
was advised of the closure through the Department of Fire and Emergency
Services operational area support group meeting at 2.00 pm on 21 February 2024.
(3) DPIRD was
engaged through regional state emergency management arrangements for planning
and response activities. Although there was no formal request to activate the
state support plan for animal welfare in emergencies, local DPIRD staff
provided advice and support by providing access to water for livestock and
information on road closures to transporters.
It is the legal responsibility of the
owner and transporter of livestock to ensure that stock is well cared for
during transit and that contingency plans are in place for any potential
emergencies.
