I refer to the issue of catchment protection. The Department of Conservation and Land Management’s Gnangara park concept plan of May 1999 states that there are sand mining and limestone quarry operations in Gnangara and that a number of applications for sand mining, limestone quarrying, mining for diatomaceous earth and natural gas exploration have been received. (1) What is the current status of those applications? (2) Can the minister provide a list of the applications that have been made and the licences granted, including the term of those licences? Hon KEN TRAVERS

I thank the member for some notice of this question. I am advised that it is not possible within the time available - Hon Norman Moore interjected. Hon KEN TRAVERS: The Leader of the Opposition would know the amount of work that is required for something like this. Hon Peter Foss: You never accepted it. Hon KEN TRAVERS: Those blokes are a joke. We could not ask them what time of the day it was without their putting it on notice. The Leader of the Opposition should know something about mining and how much work is involved in getting this information together. They are a bunch of jokes. The PRESIDENT: Has the parliamentary secretary completed his answer? Hon KEN TRAVERS: No, I have not. I will continue. I get distracted by the unruly interjections from the other side. Hon George Cash: We are promoting a Greens minister so that there will be some consistency and cohesion in decisions. Hon KEN TRAVERS: Maybe it could be one of the One Nation boys. They have gone green all of sudden. The PRESIDENT: Order, members! I think we are straying from the question and certainly from the answer. Hon KEN TRAVERS: It is not possible within the time available to assemble the information sought by the honourable member. It would therefore be appreciated if the honourable member would place this question on notice.
