, has responsibility to provide for education (including vocational education and training) to be given in government schools, non?government schools or through home education to pre-compulsory and compulsory-aged students.
The Minister for Training and Workforce Development, under the
Vocational Education and Training Act 1996
, has responsibility to provide for vocational education and training to be delivered by the State training system.
Issues and matters of common interest are discussed on an informal basis between Ministers. In addition, the strategic planning of Aboriginal education and training, across both portfolios, is facilitated by the Western Australian Aboriginal Education and Training Council, whose meetings are attended by Chief Executive Officers from the Department of Education, Department of Training and Workforce Development, the School Curriculum and Standards Authority and the Department of Education Services.
