BURRENDAH —
PROPOSED REZONING
871. Hon SUE ELLERY to the minister representing the
Minister for Planning:
(1) Is the
minister aware that the City of Canning has put out for public comment options
for redevelopment of the parkland in Albatross Pass in the Burrendah precinct
that would increase density to R40 and R60, and that this has caused
significant concern for local residents who bought in the area based on its original
zoning as public open space?
(2) What assurances can the minister offer residents that
they will not lose access to public open space?

I thank the member for some notice of the question.
(1) I
understand that the City of Canning has appointed consultants to undertake a
planning review of the Burrendah precinct, which includes an area of public
open space in Albatross Pass. Preliminary work has been carried out, including
a community workshop and stakeholder consultation, prior to preparation of a
master plan, which would then form the basis of further public consultation.
(2) Any
proposed change in the zoning or use of the land will require due process to be
followed, including public consultation. If a scheme amendment is presented to
the Minister for Planning, full consideration will be given to all public
submissions.
