HOMELESSNESS SERVICES — JUST HOME MARGARET RIVER
789. Hon STEVE MARTIN to the minister representing the
Minister for Housing:
I
refer to Just Home Margaret River, the only homelessness services provider in
the Augusta–Margaret River region , and note that the Department
of Communities' commissioning process for homelessness services
commences in July 2024.
(1) Will the
government provide the required bridging funding to this organisation so it can
continue to deliver services up to July 2024?
(2) If no to (1), why not?
(3) If this organisation were to
close, how would the government fill the service delivery gap?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of this question. The following response has been provided by the
Minister for Homelessness.
(1)–(3) The
state government is investing $225 million to support homelessness initiatives
in this financial year alone, including funding more than 130 service
agreements and grants to community sector organisations, to deliver critical homelessness services across
WA. Just Home Margaret River has never been a contracted service for the
Department of Communities. Just Home Margaret River is encouraged to continue
direct engagement with the Office of Homelessness.
