CHILD PROTECTION - CASES AWAITING INVESTIGATION
I refer to cases relating to concerns for a child awaiting investigation. (1) During May 2007, there were 541 cases awaiting investigation. How many cases are awaiting investigation at the current time? (2) Of those cases, how many have had preliminary investigations done? Hon SUE ELLERY

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. (1) As at Monday, 12 November 2007, 386 cases were awaiting a full investigation. It is relevant to note that the figure of 541 cases provided by the honourable member in this question is derived from a question on notice in the Legislative Assembly from the member for Kalgoorlie dated 20 March 2007. The figure of 541 cases applied at the end of February 2007. (2) For all of these 386 cases, a preliminary assessment has been done, and none of these children has been assessed as being at risk of immediate harm.
