DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITIES
— WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECKS
207. Hon NICK GOIRAN to the Leader of the House representing
the Minister for Child Protection:
I refer to the minister's
media statement ''New processes to strengthen Working with Children
Checks'', released on 3 February 2020, which stated that additional
staff have been allocated to the screening unit to fast-track current
applications awaiting assessment.
(1) How many additional staff have
been allocated?
(2) How many of
the additional staff are existing staff who have been reassigned to the
screening unit and how many are new staff?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1)–(2) The
Department of Communities has funded and created eight additional temporary
positions. Of these eight positions, four
have been filled. Two have been recruited from within Communities and two have
been externally recruited. A fifth
staff member, who was recruited internally, commenced on 24 February 2020 — I note that this question was lodged on 11 February
2020. An external recruitment process for the remaining three positions
is being finalised.
