BANKSIA HILL DETENTION
CENTRE — PREMIER'S MEETING —PROFESSOR FIONA STANLEY'S
COMMENTS
798. Ms M.J. DAVIES to the Minister for Corrective Services:
I
refer to the opinion piece published in today's The West Australian written by Dr Fiona Stanley. Is it true that the minister is seeking
legal advice on assertions made in this opinion piece; and, if so, what exactly
does the minister object to in this opinion piece?

AnswerView source ↗

What
I said to the media today is that I am seeking proper advice before I make a public
response, so I am not really in a position to go further because I do
not want words that I use in the Parliament to be questioned outside the Parliament. But let me make it clear: I think that
the comments that Dr Stanley made implied that I am a racist. I have
never said the words that she has written in that article. I take deep offence,
and I will expect an apology from her.
