TAB — PRIVATISATION
502. Mr M.P. MURRAY to the Minister for
Racing and Gaming:
I have a supplementary question. The
Premier has indicated that the TAB will be privatised. For the sake of clarity,
does the minister agree with him or not?

AnswerView source ↗

When I heard the Premier speak on
this, he said that if it is in the best interests of the racing industry to
sell the TAB, he would support that. Again, the shadow Minister for Racing and
Gaming's problem is that his position is now poles apart from that of
the industry. The only ability that he had to be a populist in this space was
if he thought he had the backing of industry. Now it does not back him; the
industry backs the former minister, Hon Colin Holt, and the pathway that he put
forward for the industry. I will honour the work that he has done and continue
down that pathway.
