(1) Was the Kalgoorlie
Miner of 7 May 2019 correct in reporting that the minister told a journalist
on Monday, 6 May, that there was unlikely to be provision in the budget for the
$900 000 shortfall for refurbishment works to Kambalda's swimming pool?
(2) Will the
minister confirm the following elements of the budget for Kambalda pool: a $3.1
million project cost; a $1.9 million WA Treasury loan; $287 000 of federal
government community sporting infrastructure funding; and a $900 000 shortfall,
which if funded by the Shire of Coolgardie, would reduce by that amount the
shire's reserves for future economic and social infrastructure?
(3) Will the
minister confirm that mining resource production from the Shire of Coolgardie
has increased by 25 per cent from $2.5 billion to $3.1 billion in the past
year, with a commensurate increase in royalties to government?
(4) What will the minister do to
ensure that the children of Kambalda have a place to swim?

was very pleased to see an article on 1 May about the tears of joy expressed by
the people of Kambalda that the Shire of Coolgardie will be able to deliver
them a pool given that the state government had supported the council's
application for a $1.9 million WA Treasury Corporation loan. We understand that
the pool, which has been closed since last year, can now go ahead. As it is at
the moment, as the member said, the shire is proposing to use its reserves for
those very purposes for social infrastructure. Our officers met with the Shire
of Coolgardie last month. I am told that the issue of the pool was not raised
with us and that it had its application in. If the shire feels that it needs
further assistance, it is certainly free to put in applications, whether that
is through the Goldfields–Esperance Development Commission or through
the sporting funds, which regularly come out.
