SYNERGY — COAL IMPORTS
1186. Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Energy:
Thank you, President. I will keep
trying.
I refer to Synergy's annual report 2022–23,
tabled in the Legislative Council on 21 September 2023, and the statement of
fact on page 122 of the report —
During 2023 the Corporation sourced
fuel inventories from interstate to mitigate the risk of possible coal supply
disruptions
(1) Is the total
purchase cost of the 103 000 tonnes of coal brought from Newcastle to Collie
incorporated and detailed in the Synergy annual report 2022–23?
(2) If yes to (1), on what page is
the specific accounting data apportioned to the purchase presented?
(3) What is the
final total cost of bringing the 103 000 tonnes of Newcastle coal to the Western
Australian coal mining hub of Collie?
(4) Of the total price, what was —
(a) the purchase price of the coal;
(b) the transport costs of the coal;
and
(c) the blending costs of the coal?

I thank the member for some notice
of the question. The following answer has been provided to me by the Minister
for Energy.
(1)–(4) Synergy
operates in a regulated competitive market with other market competitors. Due
to this, the details of Synergy's contractual arrangements with coal
suppliers including costs associated with delivery are
commercial-in-confidence.
